A Dundee man has organised a charity triathlon to raise money for two local causes.
Marc Crighton decided to arrange the swimming, cycling and running event after reading about the plights of Tracey Burke and Garvie Winter in the Tele.
The families of Tracey, 33, and seven-year-old Garvie are raising money for cancer treatment abroad.
Marc, 31, wanted to do something to help and set about planning the event and obtaining permission from Dundee City Council to hold the triathlon.
Now he is appealing for people to take up the challenge, which involves swimming 25 lengths of the 25m pool at Olympia, a 35km cycle and a 10km run, all in Dundee.
Marc, from Broughty Ferry, said: “I’m hoping to get 50 people to take part.
“The cost will be £25 per person and that will be to cover the health and safety costs. The rest of the money will be split between the two fundraising pages.
“I wanted to help but didn’t know what to do, then I thought of the triathlon and started planning it.
“The council gave me the go-ahead last week but the event will be on August 1, so it doesn’t give me long to get people involved.
“I should probably have allowed more time to get things done but it’s been approved now so I will just get on with it.
“Unfortunately I won’t be able to do the event myself as I will have to oversee and manage everything that’s going on.
“I’m just remaining positive that a good number of people will be up for it.”
Marc previously walked the West Highland Way to raise money for multiple sclerosis, completing the trek in a day.
He added: “Because it is local people and not for a national charity, I thought people would be up for doing it.
“The money being raised by both families is a huge amount and I noticed there were a lot of people doing smaller events.
“My thinking was that I could help by holding a medium-sized event and getting a few people together.”
The event will start at Olympia and then continue with the cycle ride, ending at Broughty Ferry Castle.
The 10km run will begin and end at the castle.
