Warning: This story contains a very graphic picture of a nasty injury. If you’re squeamish, probably best to stop right here.
There’s a reason why you should take your ring off while you play football – and this is it.
Kevin McHugh, who captains Finn Harps in the League Of Ireland Premier Division, suffered a horrific injury when he was leading a training session on Wednesday.
According to the BBC, his ring got caught in a fence and – well, you can see what happened here.
He reportedly drove himself to a local hospital and was then taken by ambulance to Galway University Hospital.
According to the BBC, he was set to undergo surgery on Thursday morning, though it was unclear if doctors would be able to save his finger.
Judging from this picture he retweeted on Thursday morning, the 36-year-old is keeping his sense of humour in what can only be described as difficult circumstances.
Get well soon, Kevin.
