Fire crews tackled two blazes at a Dundee beauty spot.
Emergency services descended on Caird Park, at its Claverhouse Road entrance, on Tuesday at around 5.30pm following reports of a fire.
The fire service later confirmed the crew tackled two separate incidents at the park.
A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said police had been informed of the incident.
He said: “We received a call at 5.41pm reporting grass in a field that was well alight.
“There were two separate strips of fire at the park and one appliance attended from McAlpine Road.
“The fires both measured 20m by 10m and were tackled using a hose reel jet and also beaters.
“Police were informed and the crew stood down from the scene at 6pm.”
A witness reported seeing “large plumes of smoke” rising into the air above the park.
He said: “I saw emergency services and a council rapid response car heading towards the bottom entrance to the park and there were large plumes of smoke coming over a wall of bushes.
“It was just along at the roundabout.
“The smoke looked like it was coming from something just off to the side of that.
“I could hear lots of sirens as I went by.”
Councillor Kevin Keenan, who represents the Strathmartine Ward, which covers the park, said he was concerned to hear about the incident and called on locals to report any suspicious activity to police.
He said: “There is always a danger with fires like this that someone’s life could be put in danger, or burned, or disfigured.
“If anyone sees anything like this happening then they should contact the fire service so they can get out quickly and make sure that it doesn’t pose a risk to the public. That area is there for the public to enjoy.”
It’s not the first time firefighters have been called to Caird Park recently.
They had to tackle a deliberate fire just a week after work began on a £32 million development at the site last month. Emergency services descended after a hedge was found to be well alight in the recreation ground.
Work is under way on the construction of the Dundee’s Regional Performance Centre for Sport, which will be housed in the grounds of the park.
