Fire officers were called out to Whitfield for the second night in a row following reports of a rubbish fire.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received a call around 9.40pm last night to attend to scrubland at the edge of Berwick Drive, where the street meets Longhaugh Road – just a stone’s throw from Braeview Academy.
A single appliance from Arbroath was sent to the scene to extinguish the fire, with Dundee-based resources occupied by the incident at Hilltown Indoor Market.
A local resident said: “It looked like a box or something that had been set alight but it was getting burned up pretty quickly.
“The firies were there soon enough and they put it out with some sort of extinguisher.
“When they put it out there was huge plumes of smoke that drifted across the road.”
