Greg Stewart has joined Aberdeen from Birmingham – despite interest from his former club Dundee.
The 27-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him spend the next season on loan at Pittodrie.
Stewart will come up against his former employers for the first time on Saturday August 19 when Dundee travel to Aberdeen.
Blue boss Harry Redknapp previously revealed that a number of Scottish clubs had asked about the possibility of a move for the former Dee ace.
Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell and Dundee were among the clubs keen to bring Stewart back to Scotland but the Dons always appeared the most likely destination for the forward, who netted 32 goals in 84 appearances at Dens Park.
Redknapp insisted that the SPFL Premiership clubs couldn’t afford the out-of-favour Birmingham player, however the Dons have persisted and got their man.
A change of circumstances with Derek McInnes choosing to stay up north and with the cash from Jonny Hayes’ move to Celtic could well have been a factor in stumping up the cash.
Stewart left Dens Park last summer in a £500k move, however he failed to break through at St Andrew’s and struggled to shine through after the managerial team changed three times in his first year.
