A property developer hopes to do away with part of a former dye works and replace it with balcony-adorned flats.

Campbell McKenzie, of Invergowrie, has submitted a proposal to Dundee City Council in which he outlines his plans to demolish part of the Lawside Dye Works.

The unit, on the corner of Milton Street and Byron Street, was most recently used as a car repair garage but has lain derelict for about six years.

Mr McKenzie hopes to build five two-bed flats and two three-bed townhouse-style homes on the site complete with balconies and parking.

In a planning statement included with his proposal, he said the new development would contribute positively to the local area.

“It is proposed that this high-quality development will make a valuable contribution to the physical regeneration of this area within the city, improve its residential amenity and provide housing appropriate to current demand,” he said.
