Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon has backed veteran striker Scott McDonald to start firing the Terrors to wins.
Summer-signing McDonald has scored just twice in all competitions this season but Ray believes the Aussie hitman will start banging them in now he’s back to full fitness.
“Scott McDonald is getting fitter, there’s no doubt about that, so that’s a real good positive,” said McKinnon.
“He’s looking a lot more like himself in training and he’s even saying it himself.
“Ideally, we’d like to get someone to play alongside him.
“He does a lot of work away on his own when he’s having a day off, he’s got programmes to do.
“I think the five or six games takes it out of you after you miss a whole pre-season but he’s getting there. He’s just about bang up to speed.
“I saw lots of positives against Falkirk, looking at everybody’s stats that’s the most we’ve run.
“Everybody is up to 11km-plus, which tells you the Fyvies, Briels, McDonalds, everybody, is getting fitter and fitter.
“That’s a good sign we just need to build on that performance-wise.
“We need to be a wee bit more confident in front of goal, getting people into the box more.
“Scott McDonald can’t do it on his own, so we need people arriving in the box from wider areas and chipping in with goals.”
