Dundee United attacker James Keatings has revealed his dad is “a very lucky man” after he was left for dead in a hit and run.

The 26-year-old’s dad Gerry was struck by a vehicle while on holiday in Gran Canaria.

The 55-year-old was found injured in the street with the perpetrator having fled the scene.

Son James, who is on the trip with his dad and step mum, said: “Wake up to find out my dad had been ran over on holiday at 3 in the morning and the person who done it didn’t even stop and left him unconscious to be found by police on the middle of the road.

“The doctors and police have been great with my stepmum and dad over here.

“He’s a very lucky man to only have the injuries he has.

“Hopefully in the coming days we will get everything sorted out and get him home when fit to fly.”

James Keatings has featured 16 times for the Tangerines in the league this season finding the net just three times.

He has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign having underwent groin surgery.
