A teenager who’s a rising star at the Dundee United Academy has shown cancer the red card.
Last year Arran Leiper, 14, was diagnosed with rare Langerhans cell histiocytosis but now, after surgery and chemotherapy, he’s cancer free.
Arran’s tumour was about the size of his hand and located in his skull, however the Grove Academy pupil now has few symptoms except for a puffy eye.
“The first thing I thought when I got the all clear was ‘I’m going to get fitter and play more football because that’s what I want to do’,” said the Broughty Ferry teenager.
Dad Malcolm, 42, a Tannadice season ticket holder, thanked academy manager Brian Grant and the coaches for “allowing Arran to continue to be normal” during his battle.
