Dundee has been named the UK’s “trending” place for tourists wanting to enjoy a city break by a travel publication.
Travel Magazine gave the City of Discovery a glowing report, just days from the opening of Kenga Kuma’s V&A Museum of Design.
The £80 million museum is the jewel in the crown of the £1 billion project to regenerate the city’s Waterfront.
It is hoped V&A staff will welcome about half a million visitors in its first 12 months, and 300,000 a year after that.
The magazine also urges visitors “not to miss” Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Art Nouveau Oak Room, which will be on display at the museum which opens next week.
The article states: “Hot to trot – it’s the UK’s first city of design. Allow a long weekend to fit in the speakeasy cocktails, street art and hip urban regeneration.”
The Waterfront area will host special festivals on Friday and Saturday to mark the grand opening of the V&A on September 15.
