A former tool-hire shop could reopen as a funeral business under plans submitted to Dundee City Council.
HSS Hire’s store on Trades Lane, at the junction with East Dock Street, closed after staff relocated to new premises on Faraday Street.
The unit has remained vacant ever since, despite being marketed by estate agents as a unit suitable for commercial uses on the Waterfront.
Scottish funeral directors Fosters are believed to be the firm involved in the bid for the unit.
An application has been submitted by property firm Ryden on behalf of The Independent Family Funeral Directors Ltd – which trades under the Fosters name.
Blueprints included with the application show three suites for undertakers to meet clients, along with space for up to four hearses.
The plan also includes a room where funeral services could be conducted, seating up to 24 people.
Few changes are proposed to the exterior of the building.
Fosters already runs several funeral parlours in Scotland and is soon to be opening others in Edinburgh, Stirling, Ayr, Clydebank and Aberdeen
Trades Lane will be its first venture in the City of Discovery, although the company has yet to officially confirm its plans for Dundee.
The firm had not responded to a request for comment at the time of going to press.
