A Dundee tattoo artist battling inoperable cancer marked his 50th chemotherapy session by tackling the gruelling 96-mile West Highland Way – raising nearly £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Steve Barnes, 40, has battled various forms of cancer – affecting his lungs, liver, bowel and lymph nodes – for more than a decade.
He was given the all-clear on two occasions but was told two years ago that his latest illness was “inoperable”.
However, regular chemotherapy sessions have managed to stop the cancer spreading.
Steve said: “It was 31 hours and six minutes total walking time with a few dinner stops and an hour’s sleep.
“It was definitely my hardest challenge so far, keeping myself going at a tough pace to get inside my target time of 35 hours.
“I kept a 3mph average over some very rough paths and steep slopes.”
