Dundee have signed Heart youngster Ian Smith.
The Tynecastle club confirmed the 18-year-old had left Edinburgh by mutual consent and has joined the Dens Park side.
Smith, who never played for the Jambos first team, can play on the left or up front.
The Hearts U20 team regular is reported to have a powerful left foot shot.
Earlier this year, Smith signed a one-year extension to his contract in a bid to break through the ranks, however he is not part of Robbie Neilson’s long-term plans.
Time will tell whether or not Smith will play an immediate role in Paul Hartley’s side.
A statement on the Hearts website read:”Ian Smith has today joined Dundee following the cancellation of his contract at Hearts by mutual consent.
“The Hearts U20s player joined the Jambos as a youngster back in 2008 and signed a professional contract in 2013.
“The 18-year-old midfielder will now continue his career at Dens Park and the club would like to wish him the best of luck in the future.”
