A shoplifter asked a sheriff to send him to prison to detoxify after he was unable to secure a place on a detox programme.
Homeless Michael Dougan, 34, admitted shoplifting from Asda Milton of Craigie, on Sunday and Monday, stealing two cameras, two games, a drink and a sandwich.
Solicitor Amy Fox said Dougan had tried to access two detox services but had been unable to do so.
Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC jailed him for 135 days.
