Senior specialist nurse June Ward has retired after 38 years of service with NHS Tayside.
June, who was based at Ninewells Hospital, started her career working in orthopaedics, then moved into coronary care.
For the past 23 years, June specialised in anticoagulation and inherited bleeding disorders.
She worked closely with families affected by conditions such as haemophilia, Von Willebrand’s disease and blood factor deficiencies.
June was a winner at the NHS Tayside STAR awards in May. She was presented with a silver award in the outstanding individual category.
Presenting June with her retiral gifts, consultant haematologist Ron Kerr said: “June has worked in our department since 1995.
“In that time she set up and developed the haemophilia service from scratch.
“She has boundless enthusiasm and energy.
“She has also been a great source of compassion and care for our population of patients with severe, chronic bleeding disorders.
“She has helped parents, children and adults cope with these very difficult conditions.
“June has been instrumental in developing haemophilia services and protocols across Scotland and the UK.
“As a result of this she is extremely highly regarded by all of her peers.
“She frequently goes well beyond the call of duty for her patients.”
