He may have been a strict teacher, but Andy Campbell remembers Sandy “Batman” Brown as a gentleman and an all round good teacher “with a few humorous quirks”.
Andy said he was in Sandy’s history classes while he was at Linlathen High from 1982 to 1987.
“All the kids were kind of scared of him because he had a tendency to use his belt a lot,” he said.
“And he was nicknamed batman because he usually wore a black cape type garment over his suit hence the name batman.
“Although the kids were scared of him he was hugely respected and if there is one teacher’s name that kids will always remember it’s Batman.
“I’ve actually met him a few times in my adult life he lives in Broughty Ferry and he is a gentleman.
“My memories of him apart from the way he stood out with his black cloak were that he was always genuine, always there to help you and there were no airs and graces with him.
“If you worked hard in his class he made sure you done well, he was just an all round good teacher with a few humorous quirks.”
