An accountant who received a life-changing cancer diagnosis while pregnant with her son has thanked her “incredibly generous” colleagues after they raised more than £34,000.
Paula McAllister, a senior manager at EQ Chartered Accountants in Dundee and mum to one-year-old Rhys, was diagnosed with bowel cancer when she was seven and a half months pregnant.
Since then, Paula has endured 16 rounds of chemotherapy and a major operation and is now on a break from treatment with regular monitoring, while still working part-time at the Dundee business.
To support Paula, EQ nominated Maggie’s Centre as its charity of the year before raising a £34,145.19. Staff from EQ’s four local offices held bake sales, race nights, pub quizzes and a number of fitness challenges including a skydive.
The year was topped off with a charity ball at Dundee’s Apex Hotel where staff and guests raised £16,000 in one night.
Paula said: “I’m very grateful to everyone at EQ, and many of our clients, for their support.”
