A kind-hearted local is tackling his biggest fear for a fantastic cause.
Jimmy McNab, 55, will jump out of a plane to make a 10,000ft sponsored skydive, even though he is petrified of heights.
He hopes to raise more than £1,000 for local charities Soul Garden and Just Bee Productions.
Jimmy, originally from Perth but now living in Coldside, volunteers at Soul Garden where he prepares and serves meals.
He said: “The idea for a skydive came when I was on a day out and got talking to an ex-soldier who told me about when he used to make parachute jumps.
“I had said that I would love to try it just to get over my fear.
“Claire Bee from Just Bee Productions overheard me and a few weeks later she came and told me that she had organised it all.
“I think she knew I wouldn’t organise it myself.
“It seemed perfect to do it to raise money for Soul Garden and Just Bee Productions.
“I have volunteered for Soul Garden for the past three years but have volunteered in lots of organisations since the 80s.
“Soul Garden’s aim is to make sure everyone in the community is fed and has a place to get together.
“We help a lot of people who are in need and those in recovery. It is a great little charity.
“We also make homeless runs around the city.
“I am hoping by doing this skydive I inspire others to do something out of their comfort zone.
“I am quite nervous but hopefully jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet will cure my fear.”
Sean Gardiner, project co-ordinator for Soul Garden, said: “Jimmy doing this skydive will mean we can hopefully continue keeping the kitchen open right through to the new year and expand our outreach in the community.
“Everyone is rooting for Jimmy and we can’t thank him enough for doing this. “All I have to say is ‘gaun yirsel, Jimmy’.”
