The handful of Dundee supporters who made the long trip to Albufeira to see their team in action got a glimpse of the threat new striker Jean Mendy brings, according to manager Neil McCann.
The 28-year-old showed up well in the Dark Blues’ 4-0 defeat to an impressive Portimonense side, even when strike partner Sofien Moussa was forced off with injury.
Neil said: “I think Mendy is a real threat.
“He showed on Sunday how good he’s going to be.
“Because of the nature of our training, he was going to fatigue and, when Moussa went off, we lost a bit of spark up top when he was asked to do a bit more running.”
As well as Mendy, fellow new boys Elton Ngwatala and Nathan Ralph impressed their new gaffer.
Neil added: “Mendy really did look a real threat. I thought Elton was excellent and Nathan showed real good composure coming into the middle of the park.”
Moussa’s injury isn’t a serious one, despite needing stitches to a head wound, while Darren O’Dea sat it out with a groin issue. He should, however, be fit for tomorrow night’s clash against SC Farense.
“Moussa has a nasty wee cut on his eye. You could see when he went off it had an effect on us. Hopefully, he’ll be OK. It’s just a cut and a bang on the head.
“O’Dea was on the bench and due to come on but he felt something. He had it before we travelled and he felt it a wee bit so there was no point in taking risks.”
