A man who uttered homophobic remarks has avoided a jail term

James Stewart, of Peddie Street, was previously found guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and making homophobic remarks on Alpin Road on September 2 2017.

Solicitor Douglas McConnell said that Stewart, 25, is currently undergoing counselling and would comply with a tagging order as an alternative to custody.

Before placing Stewart on a restriction of liberty order between 7pm-7am for four months, Sheriff Alastair Brown said: “You were right out of order on this occasion and the court will not tolerate behaviour of the sort in which you indulged.”
