A pair of Dundee-born musicians is celebrating after shooting towards the summit of the UK album chart, only narrowly failing to knock Eminem off the number one slot.
Tom Doyle and Anth Brown are co-writers and producers of Movin’ On, a new track on Paul Weller’s album True Meanings.
The album had been vying with Eminem’s Kamikaze, which has been at number one for three weeks, for the top slot all week and ended up at number two.
It’s an amazing success for the songwriting duo who, alongside their own White Label project, have been quietly working with the Modfather for the past three years, remixing some of his tracks, including Hopper in 2016, and Going My Way, which featured on Weller’s Kind Revolution album last year.
However, this is the first songwriting collaboration between the threesome and its success has astounded the Dundonian duo.
Tom, who began his working life as a journalist with DC Thomson before moving to become a freelance writer and musician in London, said: “It’s a mad story really. I’d interviewed Paul once during the late 1990s, then I was at the MOJO awards in 2005-2006 and was out the back having a smoke and the only other person there was Paul Weller.
“I spoke to him and he remembered me.
“There are already plans for us to work on another track for the next album and it’ll be completely different.”
Anth also lives and works in London as a musician, songwriter and producer after formerly running the Seagate Studios in Dundee along with his brother, sound engineer, producer and lecturer Mike.
