Plans to create new business premises on the site of a 100-year-old mansion house have been refused by Dundee City Council.

Architects Brunton Design had submitted proposals to build two single-storey business units for an office and hair salon on either side of Ingleside House, on Broughty Ferry Road.

The company had argued the two “pavilion” structures would “give an excellent example of how traditional substantial mansion houses can be added to by contemporary interventions in a sensitive non-controversial way”.

Refusing the application, head of planning Gregor Hamilton said: “The development would have an unacceptable impact on the setting of the Category B listed building, the applicant has failed to demonstrate there are no more suitable alternative sites and failed to demonstrate the plan would maintain an acceptable level of residential amenity at the adjacent residential properties.”
