Dundee’s drive to encourage greater use of electric vehicles is set to move up a gear.
The council’s city development committee is being asked to approve works at the Greenmarket multi-storey car park to provide 10 charging bays offering 20 car-charging opportunities on the roof level.
These will be powered using solar canopies with second life batteries for storage.
Valued at nearly £600,000, the project will be bankrolled by a variety of sources – primarily European funding through Transport Scotland, Dundee City Council and the UK Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles.
The city development committee will consider a tender from Swarco UK Ltd to create the charging bays at a meeting on Monday.
Dundee was recently named Europe’s most visionary city for its work to promote the use of electric vehicles.
