Dundee-based charity the Speech Language Communication Company (SLCo) is celebrating after receiving National Lottery funding.
Its £21,971 award will be used to set up the first Dundee youth club for young people in the city who struggle with speech, language and communication needs.
Arianna Patterson, SLCo’s executive director, said: “Thanks to Young Start, young people in Dundee with significant speech and language difficulties now have a fantastic chance to have fun each week, make friends and gain more independence.
“The club will meet every week and the young people will have a big say in running the club and choosing activities and outings.
“We want the voice of every child in Dundee to be heard.
“Living with language difficulties can be very lonely. Our pioneering club in East Dunbartonshire has helped so many youngsters gain confidence, with amazing results.
“We can’t wait to give isolated youngsters aged 11-18 in Dundee the same chance.
“Some young people may need one-to-one support at first, and the club will offer that, with our fully-trained youth workers and volunteers always on hand.”
