Dundee butchers have some of the best pies in Scotland

A Dundee butcher’s pies have won two gold awards at the Scottish Craft Butchers’ steak pie, speciality pie and mince round evaluation.

Grants, of Blackness Road, won gold for its steak and black pudding pie and its traditional steak pie.

More than 250 pies from throughout the country were rated for appearance, flavour, filling and appeal.

Judges included experts, food writers and interested consumers and the event was organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders in conjunction with Lucas Ingredients and William Sword Ltd.

Grants wasn’t the only Dundee butcher to win awards.

Scott Brothers, of Dundee and Broughty Ferry, won a gold for its steak and black pudding pie and a silver for its mince round.

Dundee’s The Butcher The Baker, in Annfield Road, won a silver for its mince round and Grosset’s, of Arbroath Road, won gold for its mince round and silvers for its steak and ale pie and traditional steak pie.

Further afield, D G Lindsay & Son, of Perth, won a silver award for its steak and haggis pie, while Kenneth Allan, of Blairgowrie, won gold for its chicken and ham pie and silver for its steak and ale pie.

Ann Davidson, who has shops in Scone and Coupar Angus, won four awards — golds for her mince round and steak and kidney pie, and silvers for traditional steak pie and steak and sausage pie.
