A Dundee butcher bagged two awards in this year’s World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.
Grossett Butchers won gold in the football pie category for its Mexican chilli cheese pie sold at Dundee FC, as well as landing bronze in the Scotch Pie category.
The awards, organised by Scottish Bakers, saw more than 80 butchers and bakers enter more than 450 pies, sausage rolls, bridies, savouries and apple pies, making it a busy day for the judges.
A spokesman for Grossett Butchers said: “We are delighted with our win and can go away with our heads held very high indeed.
“To have been judged as one of the best in the land against so many of our peers is a huge achievement.”
Head judge Ian Nelson said: “The competition, which has run for 20 years, aims to highlight that bakers and butchers create high quality pastry products.
“Recognising the ‘great and the good’ in this way rewards excellence and raises the bar in the industry.”
The awards were presented by TV personality and entrepreneur Carol Smillie, who said: “Each and every butcher and baker here today knows they make something special so a confirmation of this kind is the real icing on the cake.”
