Dundee brewery launches public tours – with free samples included

71 Brewing’s Duncan Alexander.

Dundee’s 71 Brewing has launched new public tours of the company’s Blackness premises.

Upon arrival, tour guests will be able to grab a pint or schooner of beer and will then be taken on a walk through the history of the building and the process of brewing, from raw ingredients to packaging the final product.

Fresh samples of beer will then be provided to taste at its brewery, located at The Ironworks on Bellfield Street.

The company, founded by Duncan Alexander and Mark Griffiths, recently opened a taproom after being granted an on- and off-sales licence.

Launched in 2016, the business secured £650,000 from Scottish Enterprise, Regional Selective Assistance and the Scottish Investment Bank, as well as private investments, to convert the 7,200 sq ft industrial warehouse into a brewery.

Modelled on a Bohemian Pilsner, 71 Lager — the company’s flagship product — prides itself on using the city’s unique low mineral water to create its beer.
