‘Desperate’ Brechin City chairman answers fears that Dundee United game could be called off

Brechin City are “desperate” for tomorrow’s game against Dundee United to go ahead.

Freezing temperatures last night are set to be repeated across Tayside this evening, leading some to speculate that tomorrow’s Glebe Park clash could be called off.

While both Dundee clubs have undersoil heating, Brechin have no such system in place.

Chairman Ken Ferguson today told the Tele that the club are doing all they can to stage the Championship encounter at 3pm tomorrow, as scheduled.

He said: “Whilst there can be no guarantee that the game will not be affected by overnight frost, at the moment the playing surface is okay, with protection covers down on the key areas normally affected by frost.

“Additional covers are to be laid this afternoon to provide some extra protection. If conditions overnight are similar to last night, as forecast, we should be okay but as always it’s a fluid situation.

“Obviously Brechin City are desperate for the game to be on and we are doing everything in our powers to ensure that happens.”
