Young Dundee striker Cedwyn Scott has been lined up by Brechin City for a possible loan move – though the League One side have Championship competition.
It’s not known which second tier side are interested but Brechin have reportedly made an inquiry about the player who set Dundee Colts off on their way to a penalty shootout victory by netting the first spot-kick at Dens on Tuesday night.
Scott banged in the goals for the Dark Blues development squad last season as they just missed out on the league title to Hibs.
However, the 19-year-old has only made three appearances for the first team and has yet to feature this time round and a stint at the League One side could do the hotshot the world of good.
Scott could follow in the footsteps of Craig Wighton who had a brief spell on loan at Glebe Park.
Despite being a fresh-faced 17-year-old, he managed two goals in four appearances.
Coach Jimmy Boyle was delighted to see his side “stick to their guns” in the Irn-Bru Cup victory over Hibs.
Tom Bradbury’s back-post header from Jack Lambert’s cross gave the young Dees the lead before Fraser Murray replied in the first half.
The visitors then took the lead as Sean Mackie smashed past goalkeeper Sam Jackson after he’d made a string of saves.
Dan Jefferies, though made it a centre-half double for his side, heading in with five minutes left to set up penalties.
Jackson made two saves to give Bradbury the chance to send his side through to the second round, which he did emphatically.
Coach Jimmy said: “When you look at our team, we’re a lot younger than them. We knew it would be a good game, we know what Hibs are about, they are a very good team.
“I enjoyed the way we played, some of the stuff in the first half was excellent but we know they have quality and put us under pressure. I’m pleased we stuck to our guns and we got what we deserved.”
There was plenty to be happy about including an impressive display from winger Cammy Dow.
Jimmy said: “Sam Jackson did great, he’s a confident big boy and I thought Cammy Dow was excellent – he’s a massive Dundee fan as well, which is great.”
The second-round draw is today at 1pm.
