Bogus workmen con Dundee OAP out of £12k

Police in Dundee have issued a warning to residents after a pensioner lost thousands of pounds to bogus workmen.

The 78-year-old man from the Fintry area was conned out of more than £12,000 by bogus workmen offering roof repair services during October and December last year.

Police officers are carrying out enquiries into this crime.

A spokesman said: “Police officers in Dundee are urging residents to be on their guard against bogus workmen who arrive unannounced at their door and offer services such as building work and repair services, gardening work, the removal of rubbish, or general tidying up.

“Anyone who has information regarding this incident should Tayside Division on 101, quoting the reference CR/33743/17.”

Resident are advised to use the Dundee Trusted Trader Scheme to find reputable traders.
