Downfield reader Bruce Wilson asked: “Did Scotland win six out the seven internationals they played in season 1964-65?”
No, but they did lose just one game.
On October 3, 1964, they lost 3-2 to Wales in Cardiff, Steve Chalmers and Dave Gibson scoring.
Two weeks later, they beat Finland 3-1 at Hampden Park. Gibson and Chalmers netted again, along with Denis Law.
On November, Northern Ireland visited Hampden and were beaten 3-2 thanks to a Davie Wilson double and one from Alan Gilzean.
April 10 was the date of Scotland’s visit to take on England at Wembley which finished 2-2. Law and Ian St John scored that day.
On May 8, Spain’s visit to Hampden ended goalless.
On May 23, it was also a draw in the Silesia Stadium, Katowice, as Poland hosted Scotland. Law netted again.
Four days later, Rangers duo Wilson and John Greig got the goals as Finland were beaten 2-1 in the Olympia Stadion, Helsinki.
