Police were called out to a Dundee street after reports of a thief – but it turned out to be a load of rubbish.
The force was contacted after concern from the public that a man was trying to steal a bin in Stobswell in the middle of the night.
However, the person who raised the alarm had ‘bin’ mistaken after the man was bizarrely pushing the receptacle along Albert Street.
A resident described seeing officers stopping the male wheeling the item down the road.
She said: “Some person outside my house just got stopped from police for stealing a street bin and rolling it up Albert Street.
“It was one of the street bins that sit on the pavement.”
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said, that after initially getting a report of anti-social behaviour, no further action was taken.
She added: “Police Scotland attended at Albert Street at 12.40am on Monday, May 30 after reports of anti-social behaviour.
“There was no further police action.”
