Plans for a 45-bedroom care home have been submitted to Dundee City Council by a well-known local company.
Balhousie Care Group has applied for permission to develop the new home on an empty and overgrown area of scrubland near Fairmuir Road.
The site is located towards the northern periphery of Dundee city centre, bordering Fairmuir Park to the west, the Kingsway to the north and Clepington Road to the south.
The plot lies between an existing pharmacy and a small commercial/retail estate immediately to south.
A design statement for the proposed home by architects James Paul Associates said: “The plot offers excellent potential to site a state-of-the-art care facility.
“The location of the site is ideal strategically from the Balhousie Care Group’s perspective, being located in close proximity to public transport links – enabling ease of commuting for local staff and residents.
“In addition, the relatively quiet residential nature of Fairmuir Road and the views and proximity to Fairmuir Park are of great advantage as a leisure and recreation amenity for local residents.
“The aim has been to develop a modern and contextually respectful development that seeks to both integrate within the existing area and robustly reinstate the current void in the Fairmuir streetscape.”
The statement said that the plan has been designed around two sheltered internal courtyards, with each of the bedrooms facing inwards towards the courtyard gardens.
“This is to both encourage informal interaction between residents and offer a greater degree of privacy to residents,” it added.
Complementary therapy rooms and a workshop are included in the plans.
The statement added: “Planting and landscape design has played a key role in these proposals and has been utilised to help soften the mass of the building and provide quality garden spaces for the leisure and amenity of residents and visitors to the centre.”
