Dundee councillor Michael Marra has called on the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to offer assurance that emergency cover is safe in the city.
Mr Marra said his concerns followed the revelation that Dundee fire appliances had been deployed in Aberdeen five times in the last six months.
He said: “These new figures are deeply worrying and stand in stark contrast to previous assurances.
“Five times in six months tells us that this is now happening as a matter of course.
“I have no problem with emergency response but the decision has been made previously as to how many fire engines we need in Dundee and that number is no longer being met as we are plugging the gaps in Aberdeen’s cover.”
Senior fire officer in Dundee, Gordon Pryde, said: “The people of Dundee can rest assured that at no point was the city under-resourced by moving a single fire engine.”
