An appeal has been launched after a dead puppy was discovered on a Fife beach.
The days-old pup was discovered by a dog walker near the harbour end of Kirkcaldy beach on January 24.
It was so tiny that animal welfare officers were initially unsure what it was.
The Scottish SPCA is now appealing for the public’s help in piecing together the circumstances that led to the puppy being left on the sands.
SSPCA inspector Sarah Gregory said the mother may be in need of veterinary treatment.
“We believe the puppy to be under a week old,” she said.
“The black and white pup was found near the harbour end of the beach on sand beside the rocks.
“If anyone in the area recognises this puppy, or has any information then we would urge you to call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
