NHS Tayside intends to send all patients who need urgent operations to Ninewells in Dundee, leading to fears the Fair City’s A&E unit will be downgraded.

About 160 people attended a public meeting in Auchterarder and support is growing for a campaign to protect services at PRI.

The plans are part of a massive shake-up of surgical services across Tayside, as approved by the Scottish Government.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Liz Smith launched the “Hands off PRI for Good” campaign with fellow Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser.

Both the Scottish Government and NHS Tayside have insisted the changes will improve surgery procedures across the region.
