A yearly fundraiser has raised £850 to help a ward at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

St Andrews University’s estates department raised the money for the haematology unit through its annual raffle.

Staff from the department and some of their contractors donated items to the raffle, including vouchers for golf lessons, hampers and sweets.

Alison Breckons, a clerical assistant at the university, said: “We’ve had an annual raffle for a number of years now and choose a different charity to donate the proceeds to each year.

“This year we chose Ward 34 as we know people who have had treatment there.

“Staff on the ward are amazing and this is one way to reward them for all their fantastic work and the support they provide to patients and their relatives.”

Accepting the donation was senior charge nurse Heather Whatley.

She said: “On behalf of the department I would like to thank Alison and everyone who took part in the fundraiser for their kind donation.

“Their donation will be put towards our patient comfort fund.”
