Dundee United capitalised on Ayr’s Friday night defeat by beating Dunfermline 2-0 to move three points clear at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship.
The prolific Lawrence Shankland gave United a ninth-minute lead with a clinical near-post finish from Nicky Clark’s cross.
And strike partner Clark was on the scoresheet himself before the half-hour mark with an expert free-kick from the corner of the penalty area.
Calum Butcher was just off target with a fierce 25-yard strike early in the second half.
Dunfermline had chances to come back into the game, Benjamin Siegrist saving well from Ryan Dow before Andy Ryan struck the crossbar, but United held on.
