Salford substitute Matt Green netted an 88th-minute winner to sink Boreham Wood 3-2 at Meadow Park and keep his side in automatic promotion contention.
The late rally had seemed unnecessary when Graham Alexander’s men grabbed two early goals. Carl Piergianni advanced from the back and headed in from a corner.
Liam Hogan doubled the advantage midway through the first half and it was another header, this time from an Ibou Touray cross.
But the hosts surged back with great passion, pulling one back quickly through Ralston Gabriel from the penalty spot, and levelling in the second half through Keiran Murtagh.
Late on, however, against the run of play, Green stabbed in to curtail a late goalmouth scramble.
