Transport police are hunting a train passenger who assaulted a conductor on a station platform.
The male attacker boarded a Kirkcaldy-bound service with another man at Haymarket on December 2 at around 9.20pm.
British Transport Police said the suspect became threatening and aggressive to other passengers shortly after the train departed.
As the train reached Edinburgh Gateway, the conductor asked the man to leave the service due to his behaviour but he followed the conductor on to the platform and assaulted him.
BTP have released CCTV of a man they want to trace over the incident.
A spokesman said: “Officers would like to identify him as they believe he may be able to assist with their enquiries into an assault of a train conductor which took place at Edinburgh Gateway station.
“Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information which could help their investigation.
“If you recognise him, or have any information, please contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference of 573 of 02/12/18.”
A ScotRail spokesman said: “The safety of our staff and customers is our priority and any physical or verbal violence towards either is completely unacceptable.
“We will continue to work closely with the British Transport Police to clamp down on unacceptable behaviour.”
