A former Tayside hotel has been left ‘unsafe’ after a blaze ripped through it early on Saturday morning.
Fire crews were called to The White Horse Inn, on Perth’s North William Street at about 4.30am.
Flames were shooting up in the air and, by 8am, a huge cloud of smoke could still be seen hanging over the centre of Perth.
sadly the roof of the old White Horse Inn…not looking good..
Flats nearby were evacuated as a precaution and roads around the scene were blocked off while the fire was being tackled.
Units from Perth, Dundee, Dunkeld and Newburgh attended with several firefighters tackling the blaze from hydraulic platforms hoisted a couple of hundred feet up in the air.
This is the second time the premises, which have lain derelict for some time, have gone on fire. A blaze in June 2013 also caused extensive damage.
A fire service spokesman said: “There is damage to most of the building and we had to evacuate some nearby residents. Although we have brought the fire under control, the building is now unsafe.”
The incident has now been handed over to Police Scotland who have launched an investigation.
