Firefighters are continuing to tackle a blaze at a farm near Monikie – nearly 24 hours after they were called to the scene.
Crews were called to East Denside Farm at 11.59am on Monday following reports of a large barn ‘well-alight’. A number of large hay-bales were alight within the building.
The main concern for crews were the two adjacent buildings, a house and another steading which contained around 300 pigs. The animals were led to safety by the fire crews and there were not any reports of any injuries to the pigs.
Two pumps from Kingsway East in Dundee were initially sent to the scene and they were followed shortly afterwards by two from Balmossie.
A statement from the fire service read: “The pigs were removed from the building and taken to a safe area and firefighters used four main jets and two ground monitors as covering jets to protect both buildings and a nearby bio-gas plant.
“Thankfully no one was injured and crews remain at the scene this morning and are continuing to dampen the area down.
“A digger will be brought in later today to spread the fire load to ensure the fire is completely extinguished. The steading itself was completely destroyed by fire.”
