Jackie McNamara is to be axed as manager of Dundee United.

The former Celtic player left as normal on the team bus following his side’s 2-1 defeat against St Johnstone this afternoon.

However, the Tele understands that he has managed the Tannadice side for the last time. United have begun the process of dismissing McNamara, which is likely to be concluded within the next 24 hours.

The Tangerines had taken an early lead through Billy McKay after Saints keeper Allan Mannus was sent off but Graham Cummins equalised for the home side before Simon Lappin snatched a late winner.

McNamara has a had a poor start to the season with United lying second bottom of the Scottish Premiership.
