An awards ceremony aimed at celebrating pubs and clubs across Dundee takes place next month — and voting is now open.
The S.T.A.R Awards will honour licensed traders who have excelled in areas of safety, training, awareness and responsibility at an event in the Apex Hotel, on Sunday
September 27, and organisers are looking for the public’s input.
There are 21 nominees, each in with a chance of winning the public vote awards for Bar Personality Of The Year, Best Atmosphere, Heart Of The Community, City Centre
Premises Of The Year and Community Pub Of The Year.
There are also more awards where the winners are selected by a judging panel and the winners of three special awards will be decided by selected organisations.
The nominees are Abertay Student Centre, Barrels, Boudoir, Cambustay, The Campbeltown Bar, Cask & Cork, The Counting House, Clarks On Lindsay Street, Decades, Dundee Indoor Bowling Club, Dundee University Students’ Union, Jolly’s, Klozet, The Logie Club, The Nether Inn, Nicoll’s, Park House Hotel, The Royal Arch Bar and Bistro, Taybridge Bar, The Capitol and Tickety Boo’s.
Morag Beattie, the awards organiser and co-ordinator of DUNCAN (Dundee Co-ordinated Anti-Crime Network) — an initiative focussed on improving the health and safety standards surrounding the city’s nightlife — said: “The list of nominees just goes to show the range of licensed premises we have.
“It’s not just pubs that are up for awards, there are social clubs, hotel bars and students’ unions. It shows that all levels of the licensed trade work hard to make the city safe.”
She added that the fact the public can vote for their favourite venue is a great way of thanking them for the work they do.
Morag said: “The nominees always want to win the awards which are voted for by the punters. The fact the public take time out of their day to let them know that they appreciate the good work done makes it worthwhile.”

Voting closes at midnight on Sunday August 30 and the winners will be kept a closely guarded secret until they are announced at the ceremony in September.
