A Dundee boy has been left “heartbroken” after the mini motorcycle he got for his birthday was stolen.
Aiden Awan, aged 6, received the bike as a present from his dad after months of asking for it.
The youngster enjoys riding the bike at the weekends when he is with his father.
But on Wednesday, it disappeared from the cupboard in the close of his dad’s block of flats on Buttar’s Place
Aiden’s dad, Ahmed Awan, said his son was “devastated” by the theft of the bike, which was taken from the Charleston area of Dundee.
The 28-year-old rail engineer said: “I’m hoping to get the word out so that if anyone spots the bike they’ll know it’s a stolen one.
“My son was devastated when it went missing.
“He’d been asking for it for a while, and I got it for him for his seventh birthday in January.
“He was so excited when he got it.
“I have Aiden at the weekends and he rides it then — he’d only been on it a few times, and now it’s gone.
“He was broken-hearted and he just burst into tears. He kept asking where it was.
“Every flat has a cupboard on the bottom floor of the close, and I’d been keeping it there.
“I’d never had anything stolen before, so I thought it would be safe.
“I don’t know why anyone would steal it, maybe to sell it or to give to someone.
“It cost £250 when I got it.
“However, now it’s got a few things broken, so I don’t know if it’s worth much.
“The front screen is cracked and a bit at the side that’s used to pull it is snapped, too.”
The mini motorbike is a black and white Michelin, with the number 10 at the front.
Mr Awan explained it would be difficult to replace.
The dad added: “I suppose I could get Aiden a new one, but it’s still upsetting, because the one that got taken was his birthday present.
“He really loved it — at first he was too scared to go on it, but then, when he got used to it, he was really excited to have it.
“I haven’t reported the theft to the police yet, but I might do so.
“I just want to get it back, that’s all.
“I’m still surprised it got taken, because this is a really safe area and there are lots of kids around here whose toys and bikes are left out in gardens and closes.
“No one really thinks that someone will steal from a kid.
“I want to warn everyone else in the area to be careful where they leave their things, and to be on the lookout for thieves. There are obviously people that are out to take things, and I’d hate to see this happen to someone else.”
Mini motos are miniature bikes, some of them petrol-powered, and are popular among boys.
There are also adult versions that are used for racing, and can be driven both on the road and off.
