It wasn’t just Tayside that saw the sky lit up overnight. Up and down the UK, people were taking photos of the fantastic lightning displays.
The map above shows that a large part of the country recorded lightning strikes, as well as on the continent, in the past 24 hours. The yellow are the most recent lightning incidents recorded and the dark purple the oldest.
There have been reports of homes in Ferryhill in Tees-side and Newcastle being gutted by fire after being hit by lightning.
