The top winner of the Tele’s massive Malmaison giveaway has said she is “over the moon” with her luxury prize.
Alison Lucas, 67, of Beauly Crescent, was delighted after bagging four VIP stays at the city’s plush Malmaison Hotel on Whitehall Crescent.
She said: “It’s absolutely wonderful to win. I’m really grateful to everyone. Thanks very much to the Tele and Malmaison, I’m really looking forward to it.”
Although Alison is thrilled to have won, she came close to not even entering the competition in the first place.
Having thrown away the first competition edition of the Tele, Alison only had the last three clues to the anagram. Using a bit of guess work and a lot of intuition Alison managed to work out the first letter and decided to chance her luck at the grand prize.
She said: “I had the E L E, but I didn’t know the first letter. I guessed it had to be T, and that the word must be Tele, so I tried my luck and phoned in. I still can’t believe I won. This is the second thing I’ve won recently I must just be lucky.”
Although Alison and her husband will enjoy one of the luxury stays, she said she will give the other three nights as gifts to her family.
She said: “My son and his wife got married there when it was the Tay Hotel and they were supposed to go there for their silver wedding anniversary last year, but they couldn’t make it.
“He has good memories there and it’d be good for them to go back, so I’ll give him one for that. I think I’ll give my daughter one too. It’s her birthday in April, so hopefully she’ll be able to get one for then.”
But Alison said she won’t let her lucky streak go to her head and has vowed not to enter into any more competitions for a while. She said: “I’m not going to do it again for a wee while, not even the bingo. It’s not fair on everyone else.”
