A man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a woman and leaving her with horrific injuries as she returned home from a night out.
Robbie Lowther is accused of attacking the woman, leaving her with abdominal injuries, in Tayport, Fife, around 1am on Friday.
Lowther, 23, of Cross Street, Tayport, appeared in private on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court on Saturday.
He faced a charge that on January 2 in Craig Road, Tayport, he assaulted the 22-year-old woman by seizing hold of her and striking her with a knife or similar injury to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life and attempted to murder her.
Lowther made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro remanded him in custody ahead of a further appearance next week.
Police Scotland said the woman suffered serious abdominal injuries and was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she was said to be in a stable condition.
