A Dundee councillor is calling for a ban on E-cigarettes in public spaces.
Craig Melville hopes the devices will be placed under restrictions similar to the general smoking ban “as soon as is possible”.
He is also hoping for stricter controls of the advertising of electronic cigarettes.
A draft response from the council to Scottish Government consultation will be considered by the environment committee on Monday.
Ahead of the meeting Councillor Melville said: “I am very keen that the same restrictions as the general smoking ban can be placed on E-cigarettes as soon as is possible.
“This would be to the advantage of the health of people across Dundee and Scotland.
“There is still a major battle ongoing on to convince people to give up smoking and reduce the risk of making smoking attractive to children.
“We need to remain extremely vigilant against anything that may set that back.
“I recognise certain people have used e cigarettes as way to stop smoking but I believe that they are a potential health problem and legitimise smoking for younger generations.”
