Police in Angus are urging residents to be on their guard after 3,000 litres of red diesel was taken from a farm near Aberlemo.
The fuel was stolen from a storage tank sometime between 10pm on Sunday and 12pm on Monday.
Officers have appealed to drivers and farmers, business operators and residents across Tayside to take every precaution to try and prevent themselves from falling prey to this type of incident.
A spokesperson said: “We would also ask that the public are vigilant and report any suspicious activity, people or persons to police, especially if they are concerned about their presence in rural areas where they might have access to fuel tanks, agricultural vehicles or lorries for the purposes of fuel theft.”
Anyone who wants to report suspicious activity or who has information that could assist police inquiries should call Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer. Alternatively the public can phone the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
